Father playing soccer with childrenScreen Time and Your Health

Many of us have spent a lot more time on our phones, tablets, computers, and in front of the television throughout the pandemic. This has been an easy way to connect with friends or family, take a fitness class and or work from home. However, now is a great time to replace some screen time with outdoor physical activities.

It’s officially spring and the perfect time to challenge ourselves, friends and family to put down our devices and choose a healthier option.

  • Go for a walk during lunch or after dinner
  • Take the dog for a quick jog around the block
  • Ride a bike, roller blade or skateboard
  • Visit a local park with your friends or family
  • Kick a soccer ball around the yard or shoot some hoops with your kids

For more ideas on how to be more active as a family, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. Be a good role model and help your kids develop into the strongest, healthiest and happiest versions of themselves. Make family rules that limit screen time and encourage at least an hour of physical activity each day — and make it part of daily your routine, too. You could lose weight and lower your stress levels. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Did You Know?

When you receive care, you and your health plan usually each pay some of the cost. This is called cost sharing. Check your coverage document on your secure member site (listed on the back of your Medica ID card) for how the cost is determined and divided up.

Deductibles, coinsurance and copayments are all examples of cost sharing and describe an amount that may apply when you receive care. See the Deductibles, Copayments and Coinsurance member tip sheet to learn more. If you have questions, call Customer Service at the number on the back of your Medica ID card.
