Bowl of fruitBe heart healthy

Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in the United States. But there’s a lot you can do to help protect your heart, like adding healthy habits into your lifestyle. When you make healthy choices, it helps keep your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels normal and lowers your risk for heart disease and heart attack.

Reduce your risk for heart disease with these healthy steps:

  • Ask your doctor about your blood pressure, cholesterol, and A1C
  • Be physically active
  • Eat healthy by including plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limit sodium, trans fat, saturated fats, and added sugar
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Don’t smoke
  • Manage stress
  • Get enough good-quality sleep
  • Keep your diabetes under control
